Times were changing rapidly and digital desktop publishing technology reshaped the craft of graphic design and printing forever. “I’ll never forget the smell of ink, machine oil, paper, mildew, and cigarette smoke in one place.” His love for mechanics matched his creative itch when he first walked into an old school letterpress print shop in 1987, where he asked for a typesetting apprenticeship, and so began his life-long professional journey of creative work, photography and print making. ![]() Markus Hartel was born in a small industrial town in western Germany.
